Morning light breaks through the trees, illuminating the spray of a large curl off the coast of Kauai back in January of 2019. It was really enjoyable to sit and watch these waves barrel in and crush everything in their path. For an idea of scale, the rocks in the lower part of the frame are probable 3ft-4ft tall!
Since I was shooting at 300mm and the waves were still a bit away from me, I chose a really fast shutter speed of 1/4000 to really freeze the motion of the water which required shooting wide open and an ISO of 400 even with the morning light.
This was captured while on a workshop with Nick Page (www.nickpagephotography.com) Wanna see more images from this trip? Check out my Kauai Collection
